Celebrating Constructing Excellence in Wales

To reinforce our commitment to collaborative Welsh construction, this year we were proud to sponsor the Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) awards.

The biggest and brightest

Now in their 12th year, the awards are seen as the biggest and brightest celebration of best practice in the built environment, with over 100 entries that demonstrate a real commitment to delivering essential facilities and infrastructure in a collaborative, sustainable way.

It’s a commitment we share, and that’s why we sponsored the Integration & Collaborative Working Award. The quality of the entries was excellent, but the CEW judging team selected six outstanding finalists:

• A4232 Eastern Bay Link – rerouting traffic from Cardiff city centre
• Better Together project – futureproofing of 1970s homes
• IQE CS Cluster – creating a world-class semiconductor production facility
• Ministry of Furniture – providing an agile working environment for the City and County of Swansea
• Pentrehafod School Project – creating a new 1000 place secondary school
• Ysbyty Glan Clwyd – major refurbishment of a live hospital building

The overall winner was the IQE CS Cluster, and the team were presented with their award by our Chief Finance Officer, Alastair Gamage. This win recognised the remarkable transformation the project team, including Atkins, IQE, CMB and Faithful + Gould, had made to the former LG Packaging and Testing Building in Newport, which had stood empty since 1996.

Forging positive partnerships

This is an example of the kind of collaboration we are proud to promote, and it’s also the reason we won the “Best Client to Work With” category at the Construction Enquirer Awards last year – for the second year in a row.

Voted for by the construction industry, the award recognises our ability to draw together the effective, engaged teams we need to deliver key projects, in Wales and far beyond.
