A relatively new school but due to its great location and consistently good performance student number’s have significantly increased in the last few years.

The existing building couldn’t accommodate the additional students so the school new classrooms and specialist facilities were built to accommodate them.

Trinity School is in an ideal location and has an excellent reputation, located in Sevenoaks it has experienced growth from a wide catchment area and therefore required more teaching space to accommodate the additional pupils.

After the successful delivery of phase one, the second phase of a three-storey, modular extension adjoining the original school building could commence. As an integral part of the school’s growth strategy this will enable Trinity School to accommodate additional pupils in a modern, fresh and stimulating environment.

The project needed to be delivered with speed and efficiency and therefore the requirement to look at modern methods of construction to deliver the brief of 12 new classrooms, an activity studio, drama studio, art studio, changing facilities and seminar room.

The main challenge was the requirement to deliver 12 new classrooms and other specialist facilities in a very short timeframe, on a live site with minimal disruption to the day to day running of the school.

A modular construction method was selected as it could be delivered within the tight timeframe and the units could be ‘built’ in the factory and delivered to site during school holidays. This in turn, reduced the number of vehicles on site during the school day and meant that it was a safer environment for the pupils and staff than if Kier had adopted a traditional approach.

There were also challenges around noise and disruption because the modules had to be installed during the school’s examination period so Kier worked closely with the school and work out of hours to ensure they met the contract completion date.

As the result of the project, the school has now enough teaching spaces to fulfil their requirements for the increased number of students. The project has been completed on time and on budget.

Trinity school is a fairly new school which has become very popular, so demand is high. With the new classrooms and additional teaching spaces, the school is now able to accommodate a larger number of pupils.
