A new HQ for Nottinghamshire Police
Nottinghamshire Police moved into Queen's Building, shared with Bassetlaw District Council, as part of a local restructure in the town of Worksop. This was designed to save money whilst increasing officer presence on the streets.
The relocation was in response to the government’s reductions in police funding, which has hit Nottinghamshire particularly hard, with £56m of cuts completed to date and a further £12m required to meet their target.
The move also enhanced the services offered to Bassetlaw residents from Queen’s Building, as part of the council's One-Stop service that currently includes the Department for Work and Pensions, Citizens Advice and Two Shires Credit Union. This collaborative approach secured optimum value for Nottinghamshire Police, as well as benefiting the local community.
The social value created via this project was assessed through the use of the National TOMS (Themes, Outcomes, Measures) framework, established by the Social Value Portal.
The project created new station facilities for the force within Queen's Building, including a vulnerable victims’ suite, interview rooms and new front desk.
The works compromised of internal alterations to the second and third floor of the building, including the building of new walls, joinery, fitting of doors, decoration and flooring, together with electrical work to power new lighting circuits, and changes to heating controls
There were external groundworks and new walls required to create a level base for the new police containers
Disruption to the day-to-day running of the police service, and of Bassetlaw District Council, was simply not an option.
- Maintaining continuity of service was critical, as the building was still tenanted throughout the duration of the project
- The team have experience of working on ‘live’ sites such as this, and so ensured that all work areas were cordoned off, and that any disruptive works were undertaken out of hours to ensure that the building was kept open and fully operational for the other staff members
Nottinghamshire Police now have an additional dedicated police officer for Worksop Town Centre and three new PCSOs. A new CID unit were also moved in once works were completed, followed by a new Schools Liaison Officer.
Throughout the project, exceptional social value outcomes were created for the local community.
82% of local labour was used on the project supply chain, and 74% of the contract value was spent in the local area.
- An apprentice was provided with on-site work experience during the project
- A Lindum working group was also implemented to discuss health and well-being, with courses on mental health arranged through the NHS
All public services will continue to face significant financial challenges in the future and working more closely with our partners, like this, is a logical step that delivers economic savings while providing better facilities for the public."

The project was the first to commence and complete through our Regional Construction framework, which delivers construction projects across the Midlands and East of England.
