Enabling growth through infrastructure in Warrington.

This project involved infrastructure improvements to increase the capacity on the roundabout connected to Junction 8 of the M62. This will help to facilitate the development of Omega, a major mixed-use commercial, housing and retail site, and maintain the flow of traffic.

This project, delivered by Balfour Beatty through the SCAPE National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework, is one of the Cheshire and Warrington LEP’s key projects and has been identified as a key scheme in the Government’s Growth Deal Fund.

By creating an extra two lanes, this will allow more traffic to stack and increase through traffic on the green phase of the lights, enabling improved connectivity and journey times for commuters in the area.

During an extensive pre-construction stage, Balfour Beatty assisted Warrington Borough Council with their business case for the LEP funding application, helping to give confidence in scheme deliverability within programme and budget. They also supported the council in securing £3 million of funding from the Growth and Housing Fund, by engaging with Highways England.

To date, the team have generated savings of over £800,000 for the client through value engineering solutions.

This is the first of several major transport projects that are due to be delivered across the region. This will help to support the area’s ambitious growth agenda, with over 24,000 new homes and 20,000 jobs planned over the next 20 years.
